A former romantic partner of a Purdue basketball player has filed a 1-Million Dollar lawsuit against the basketball player in the Tippecanoe Circuit Court on April 10, 2018, accusing him of lying about an STD infection. This lawsuit alleges that the Purdue Basketball player and the woman tried to cover up the infection, disputing the allegations, and attempted to have the accuser not file the lawsuit. According to the lawsuit, the basketball player and the accuser had a brief sexual encounter on May 15, 2017, and that two weeks later the accuser discovered that she was infected with herpes. The accuser has claimed that she has not had any sexual relations with anyone but the basketball player between the day of the brief sexual encounter and the day she was diagnosed with herpes. The basketball player claims to have told the accuser that he had been treated for chlamydia and was “clean” by the time of the brief sexual encounter. The basketball player also stated that he had been tested, diagnosed, treated, and tested again by the university’s student health services, who told him he was clean. The other woman became involved in the lawsuit due to an alleged text to the basketball player accusing him of infecting her with herpes. When the attorney for the plaintiff learned of this, he filed a motion to preserve electronic data through one of the coaches of the basketball player. However, the lawsuit claims that this text represents an admission to elements of intentional infliction of emotional harm, or evidence of a conspiracy among the basketball player, the other woman, and the Purdue coaches to cover up the knowledge and wrongful concealment of the basketball player. The accuser has requested a jury trial and has petitioned for Judgment against the basketball player, the other woman, and Purdue University to compensate her for injuries, damages, costs, and expenses.
