Around 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2020, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a 90-year-old woman was struck by a car while on a morning bike ride. The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene, and police are still searching for any tips to find them. The elderly woman was left badly hurt with multiple broken bones and a head injury, luckily, she was wearing a helmet at the time of the hit-and-run and has no life-threatening injuries. There were no cameras in the area where the crash occurred, and police could not find any evidence to identify the driver of the vehicle. There was a person in the area that saw the collision and was able to let the police know they saw a blue four-door sedan with tinted windows speed off at the time the collision was heard.
With the warmer season back, it means that more people are wanting to be outside exercising, taking walks, going on bike rides, etc. and drivers need to remember that and be respectful of sharing the road with pedestrians. Even in the early morning hours, drivers still need to be just as vigilant with their surroundings when operating a vehicle. In this situation, someone was seriously injured due to the actions of a driver that could have been distracted and not focusing on their surroundings.
