A farming accident in Boone County on Monday, October 22, 2018, may cost a farmer his legs. A 72-year old farmer was working in a cornfield picking cane and weeds of the field, while his farmhand was driving a combine. According to the investigating officer, the farmhand did not see that the farmer was in front of the combine, and did not stop the combine, which caught the farmer. The farmer had been caught by his leg in the corn head of the combine, which strips the stalk and leaf away so that only the ear and corn husk enter the machine. Paramedics were called to the scene and took the farmer to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has listed the farmer as being in stable condition on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. According to the Sherriff’s office, it is normal for young children and older farmers that own their own property to work out in the fields.
