At about 11:00 AM on October 18th, 2017 a dump truck collided with an Indianapolis Fire Department engine near the intersection of 43rd street and Capitol Avenue. The fire engine was on an emergency medical service run near the 600 block of West 43rd Street when it was struck by a dump truck and pushed into the retaining wall of a nearby yard. The driver of the dump truck told the firefighters that he heard the sirens but could not see where they were coming from continued driving southbound on Capitol Avenue before being unable to stop upon observing the fire engine. Following the collision, the driver of the dump truck was arrested afterwards for driving on a suspended license. There were three firefighters in the fire engine at the time of the accident, all three were injured in the collision and sent to IU Methodist Hospital.
