Police across the state of Indiana have begun to crack down on aggressive drivers in March with the hope of making the roads a little bit safer going into the spring season. Recently aggressive driving has begun to escalate in Indianapolis and the IMPD have already investigated one deadly shooting this year that was the result of road rage, among several other aggressive driving incidents. For the month of March, the Marion County Safety Partnership will be conducting increased patrols for aggressive drivers. IMPD believe that failing to yield the right of way is one of the top causes of crashes leading to injuries and fatalities. Additionally, drivers following too closely, making unsafe lane movement, driving at unsafe speeds, disregarding traffic signals or signs, and improperly passing, turning or using lanes are among other aggressive driving violations that have led to other crashes on the road. According to studies, young drivers, particularly men, are more likely to engage in unsafe driving behaviors. The American Automobile Association (AAA) suggests that to avoid road rage and aggressive driving, avoid cutting off other cars, driving slow in the left lane, tailgating, or making gestures to other drivers that would make them angry.
