A student at Clarksville High School is still recovering from injuries from a collision involving a drunk driver on September 6, 2020. The collision occurred early in the morning at the intersection of Sunset Drive and Charlestown Road in New Albany, Indiana. The teenager was traveling on Charlestown Road when he was struck by the driver of another vehicle that had crossed the center line and collided head-on with his vehicle. The driver was later charged with operating his vehicle while intoxicated, attempted battery on an officer, and disorderly conduct. The teenager was taken to the hospital in serious condition and had to have surgery on his kneecap and clavicle and may have additional surgery to fix a shattered heel. The mother of the teenager has asked that anyone that is going to have a drink call a friend or a ride-share service, or stay the night somewhere instead of potentially affecting someone else’s life by getting behind the wheel and causing a collision. The teenager’s family is hoping that he will make a full recovery.
Drunk drivers are a year-round problem that all drivers have to be wary of while on the road, more so in the evening or early morning. With more people going out in the evening, every driver has to be more cautious than before while on the road.
