On Monday, December 10, 2018, a three-vehicle collision occurred in Bartholomew County resulting in injuries for a pedestrian who been acting as a good Samaritan. According to the Indiana State Police who responded to a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of State Road 7, the collision began when one of the vehicles involved suffered a mechanical issue. The vehicle came to a stop off the edge of the roadway, and two other drivers pulled over to assist the driver of the broken-down vehicle. Another motorist was approaching the vehicle and was unable to avoid the slow traffic. One of the two drivers who stopped to help the driver of the broken-down vehicle was struck by the fourth vehicle after it had sideswiped another vehicle on the road and then crashed into the vehicle of the other driver that had pulled off the road to help the driver of the broken-down vehicle. The victim was released from Columbus Regional Health, and the driver who struck her submitted to a blood-alcohol test, of which the results are still pending. The investigation is still on-going, and State Road 7 re-opened after two hours of crash analysis and cleanup.

Seeing another vehicle stranded on the side of the road is always something that most drivers will stop to help. These good Samaritans take a great risk just trying to help those on the side of the road, potentially becoming victims themselves.
