On June 26, 2016, a 13-year-old boy was seriously injured when his leg became entangled in a tow rope while being pulled behind a boat on an inflatable tube on Raccoon Lake State Recreation Area in Parke County. As a result of the boy’s right knee being caught beneath the tow rope, the boy suffered serious, yet non-life threatening injuries to his leg and knee. During the incident, there were nearly a dozen people on the boat towing the boy who immediately were able to get the boat to shore to aid the boy. However, due to the severity of his injuries, the boy was transported by helicopter to Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health, where he is presumed to be in stable condition. Arriving at the scene and assisting in the rescue effort were Indiana Conservation Officers, Parke County EMS, Bellmore Fire/Rescue, and the Parke County Sheriff’s Office officials.
