The winter season has begun in Indiana, and the Indiana State Police are urging all Hoosiers to prepare for winter road conditions and to drive safely. The ISP are worried that many drivers in the state of Indiana have become too used to dry roads and will not be prepared for sudden changes in the weather conditions on the road. They are advising drivers to start thinking about what they need to do before leaving their homes when winter road conditions set in. In 2019, a snowstorm in mid-December contributed to a rise in automobile collisions across Indiana. In particular, the number of collisions greatly increased between the weeks of December 9th and 16th; a more than 360% increase. The ISP wants every Hoosier to prepare for winter road conditions, as many of the collisions that they have responded to involved vehicles traveling too fast for winter weather conditions. The Indiana State Police have winter driving safety tips listed on their website.
